Novatronix Electronic AHO Switch is a new product which can be fit on your bike (RE only for now) which enables the rider to switch on and off the headlight, which by default stays on always.
AHO – All-time Headlight On or Automatic Headlight On, is a mandatory feature on all vehicles these days (at least since 2017). Irrespective of the time, be it dawn, dusk, midnight or afternoon, the head light stays on.
What is the purpose of always having the headlight on? Well the idea behind this feature is to bring attention to other passersby that theres a bike on the road.
Majority of us have still not yet gotten used to the idea of having the headlight always on. I myself have got the “your headlight is on” hand signal from many people on the road.
I own a Continental GT650. The stock headlight itself is powerful. The heat emitted by the bulb is enough to boil an egg! ð When riding in city, during signals, it is a common habit of many to switch the bike off. On recent bikes, the headlight will still be on even when you kill the engine.
Now, what is an alternative to this? Novatronix had launched a product specific to RE bikes – Electronic AHO Switch. Fixing this in your bike enables you to switch on and off the headlights using the Pass switch.
I placed an order for this unit on March 20th and was expecting it to be delivered somewhere in April. Coronavirus however had other plans! Just last week, I started to follow up with them on when the unit will be dispatched (I got the unit on June 10th).
After failing to find a tutorial in English on how to set it up, I decided to give it a try on my own! What’s the worst that could happen, eh?
Step 1: Remove the screw located on top of the headlight.
Having big hands, a short screwdriver and using the longer OEM flyscreen made removing this screw the most difficult and time consuming task. Removing this screw when you do not have the flyscreen is a very simple task.
Step 2: Decouple the highlighted set up
The black coloured link is to be removed. It is rather straightforward.
There will be a small hook which you need to press and decouple.
Step 3: Plug & Play
This is how I received the AHO switch.
Fitting the AHO switch is very simple. Just plug and pay. Use the zip tie to keep the AHO switch in place.
Step 4
Fix the dome and tighten the screw
Step 5: Work it
Now that the unit is installed, switch the engine/bike on. You will notice that the headlight also switches on for a couple of seconds.
Press the pass switch for 5 seconds. You will notice that the headlight comes on. To switch the headlight off, press the pass switch for 5 seconds
Note:
1. The AHO feature was made mandatory to alert others of your presence on the road. An alternative to always having the headlight on is to have a DRL installed on the bike.
2. I have never personally medalled with the wiring till date. So doing this DIY was a big achievement for me! ð
3. This post is not a paid review about the product. This post is just to show how to install the unit in RE Continental GT650 and Interceptor 650
Really great. Thanks
Happy to help Tarun! Ride safe.
