Yep! You read it right. There is a start up which is selling wireless bluetooth helmet audio device. Read on to know more!
Communication is a key when it comes to group rides – whether it be by hand signals or through bluetooth intercoms.
I had previously owned 2 generic bluetooth helmet audio systems. Main reason why I had not opted for branded device was due to cost. No other reason. On the generic devices, I faced one common problem – wires!
The wire problem!
The wiring has to go between the helmet cushion/lining and the shell.
So the lining has to be removed, the speaker and the mic has to be placed properly with enough wire freeplay. The lining then has to be put back (either snapped on or pasted using vulcro).
Now on both the generic devices I had used, the mic wire snapped one time and speaker wire snapped one time. It is bothersome! So, I then switched to Sena SMH5. After using it for sometime, the mic wire snapped.
In comes Domio Motorsports, who offer wireless bluetooth helmet audio system. The idea has been crowdfunded. I had been following them for few weeks during their crowdfunding times. Finally I placed an order during November 2019. I had placed an order for the audio system, mic and a remote control (mounted on handlebar).
Partial order cancelled
Few weeks into placing the order, I realised fitting the remote control on my bike would be difficult. So I requested the Domio team to cancel this item alone. The responded and obliged immediately.
Since they had priority of dispatching the pre orders first, my order was expected to be shipped late February 2020, which was later pushed a bit to first week of March 2020 (which was updated properly on the tracking link for my order). Due to all the pandemic of coronavirus, a delay was expected, which was properly communicated by the Domio team.
I never did expect the package to arrive during the pandemic times. However, lo and behold! I got it delivered in April 2020. It was actually a pleasant shock. It was sent through Speed Post. Of course, customs had to be paid.
Once you open, it has everything packed neatly – the audio device, the mic, the mounts and charger cable. Take a look below!
My 2 cents on the unit
As the product was delivered during lockdown, all i could do was check it out indoors. It was good. Only recently did i get a chance to test it during my commute to office. At max volume, I was able to hear the audio from the wireless bluetooth device.
Points to note:
1. City traffic was loud
2. My bike was also a bit loud.
3. I was wearing a half face helmet.
So I am expecting good clarity on highways and when wearing a full face helmet.
I have also not tested the mic yet. Maybe on the next ride, whenever and wherever that is, I will check it out.
